Velocicharge Announces the Third Expansion of its Fast-Charge Network for Electric Cars in Puerto Rico

It will also have new charging stations, federal projects, environmental impact and technological innovation throughout the island.

October 15, 2024

San Juan, Puerto Rico – As a commitment to the future of mobility, Velocicharge, a leader in fast charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, proudly announces its third phase of expansion in Puerto Rico. Starting in October and until mid-2026, the company will expand its network with new stations and significant improvements to existing facilities, thus consolidating its position as a pioneer in the vehicle electrification sector.

This expansion incorporates new fast charging stations around Puerto Rico in the locations of: Plaza Cayey, Plaza Fajardo, Plaza Isabela, and Marriott Courtyard in Aguadilla for the convenience of its customers. In addition, the company will make improvements and expansions to existing stations such as: The Shops at Caguas (formerly Catalinas Mall); Plaza Río Hondo in Bayamón; Plaza Las Americas; and The Outlets 66, adding more fast chargers to all of them. These new locations will be added to the other existing charging areas in other shopping centers such as: Plaza Céntrico in Guayama; Plaza del Caribe in Ponce; and Plaza del Norte in Hatillo. In 2021, the company began its fast-charging network in the town of Canóvanas.

Federal Funds N.E.V.I. (National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program)

The evolution and development of Velocicharge has been through private investment. However, thanks to NEVI funds and investment from the company, the expansion will include new stations in the municipalities of Yauco and San Juan. This program will allow for the implementation of new infrastructure, including the construction of a new charging area at Yauco Plaza and the expansion at The Outlets at Montehiedra, whose high-power chargers of up to 180 kW, and available 24 hours a day, will ensure an experience of “ultra-fast” and highly efficient charging for all users. “We are very excited about the trust placed in us with the assignment of these two projects. Since 2021, as a Puerto Rican company, we have accumulated invaluable experience with the management of more than 70 chargers and over 35,000 charging transactions, which gives us extensive knowledge of the electric vehicle market in Puerto Rico. This support not only facilitates the transition to electric mobility but reinforces our commitment to clean technologies and reducing our carbon footprint, in line with federal policies. We are ready to continue leading the way towards a more sustainable future on our island.” – stated Carlos Vizcarrondo, owner and CEO of Velocicharge LLC and Visotek Corp.

Environmental Impact and Commitment to Sustainability

Since its inauguration in 2021, Velocicharge has managed to reduce the emission of 411,855 pounds of carbon dioxide, equivalent to approximately 205 tons as per its April 2024 Environmental report.

Likewise, the use of solar systems in several shopping centers has contributed to the production of clean energy, further minimizing its carbon footprint. “We are dedicated to transforming Puerto Rico into a leader and reference point for electric mobility in the Caribbean. With this expansion, Velocicharge enables cleaner transportation solutions, and leads the energy transformation of companies committed to the environment. Companies are moving towards environmental sustainability, and we help them through the entire process of planning, execution and management of these solutions. We become their business partner towards electrification,” emphasized Vizcarrondo.

Strategic Alliances, Education and Consumer Benefits

Betting on the future and in collaboration with leading automobile manufacturers and distributors such as Hyundai, Genesis, Kia, Ford and Vinfast, a free charging incentive program for new vehicles purchased has been launched. These incentives start from $500 to $1,000 of free charging and in some models represent between 8 to 11 months of free charging. Juan Alvarado, Marketing Director, highlighted, “These collaborations encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and the growth of the charger network like this one started by us in October. By working together, we advance the transition towards clean and efficient mobility.” Likewise, Velocicharge maintains an active program of alliances with various organizations to educate about electrification and best market practices.

Technology and Trust

Velocicharge uses its own application, offering its customers access to live charging information, alerts and charger availability, and more. “Technology evolves at an accelerated pace, but it must be focused on the customer and their convenience. We constantly update the application to add security and new features so that the customer is always informed. Two of these examples are: AutoCharge and AutoPay. With AutoCharge, car validation processes are reduced and streamlined for each charge. Likewise, AutoPay allows your account to be recharged automatically and always have a balance. With both activated, you arrive, connect and that’s it!”, said Juan Alvarado, marketing director of Velocicharge.

The company recognizes that consumer trust is key for all industries, especially an innovative one that transforms consumer behavior. Vizcarrondo expanded about this by explaining that clients normally have questions and concerns, frequently fueled by misinformation or incomplete facts in the channels that the client has access to. The most common is the availability of chargers, both due to the quantity available and their correct operation. “At Velocicharge, we proactively plan, build and manage to optimize the operation of the chargers. In 2023, our charger network was 99.7% operational, exceeding the federal recommendation of 97%, thanks to the maintenance that is carried out remotely and in person on all installed stations,” the executive concluded.
